These cars are notorious for vacuum leaks, as there are tons of lines that you cant even see, such as the egr and aiv vac lines. Also, ive seen NAs missing the "recirc cap" pipes beside the air box. These are the pipes that block the openings on the intake pipes for the recirculation valves on TTs, since NAs and tts share the same pipes after the air filter T. If you bought the car running this way, then check for missing pipes up front. I had one that was missing a pipe on one side of the airbox from a wreck which was never replaced. The car ran horribly, and the owner couldnt figure it out. It just had a massive air leak on the driverside which was sucking in air that wasnt registered by the maf.
